Social media has advanced the Gospel, from Myspace to the revolutionary arrival of Facebook. Since 2004, the Gospel has gone from the streets to the timelines. Social media has transformed the way we share the gospel and more people can now be reached by the word of God around the world on their devices at any time.
However, there is a danger in what we share and how we share it. I think to be able to effectively share the Gospel of God online you need to be full of God as you can’t give what you do not have. It’s interesting that the first question Facebook asks you is “what’s on your mind?” and Twitter asks you “what’s happening?” The bible states that “out the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” The easiest way to build God’s Kingdom in a modern world is to first build God’s Kingdom in our own hearts.
Revival will not come until the revivalist is revived! Sharing the Gospel in a modern world is effective when the Word has first gone in us before it can go through us, not just head knowledge but a genuine encounter with God will affect you for life. Then we can say like Jeremiah, “But His Word was in my heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones”
In conclusion, social media has been a blessing to the Gospel but to effectively utilize this tool the sales man needs to know his trade and become his trade, being the Gospel of Christ.
